Out There is a 4.1 channel immersive sound installation in Latvia National Library, commission by Skaņu Mežs festival 2015.
The composition Out There is made from hydrophone recordings of underwater insects, ultrasound recordings slowed down into the audible range, and recordings from the open ocean into the forest of Kemeri National Park outside Riga. Jana spent time in August this year on a residency for Skaņu Mežs recording and observing this unique and rich moorland with its large biodiversity of species.
We place ourselves relative to the environment, our senses and our ability to survive. To think outside our perception is intriguing. We have made navigation systems and theories relative to ourselves, and we fail to notice the really small creatures, and to listen to the silence our activities leave behind.
