Making its world premiere at ArtScience Museum on 6 June, Into the Ocean: Journey Beneath is a landmark exhibition in collaboration with OceanX, one of the world’s leading ocean exploration organisations. Conceived as a flagship OceanX Education initiative, the exhibition invites visitors on a descent through the depths of the sea, from the sunlit surface waters to the darkest reaches of the ocean. At the heart of the exhibition is extraordinary footage captured by OceanX’s state-of-the-art research vessel, OceanXplorer, including material never shown before publicly.
Using advanced submersible cameras capable of filming at all depths of the ocean, the OceanX team has documented environments that remain largely unseen. Vast, intimate, and precise, these cinematic scenes form the backbone of the exhibition, transforming scientific exploration into a powerful visual encounter with the ocean’s beauty and fragility.
As visitors descend through the ocean’s zones, from the visible, life‑rich surface to the deepest reaches of the sea, OceanX’s footage is placed in dialogue with contemporary artworks and scientific specimens. The exhibition features works by internationally renowned artists: Marco Barotti, bit.studio, Marshmallow Laser Feast, Ong Kian Peng, Robertina Šebjanič, Sissel Tolaas, Lachlan Turczan and Jana Winderen, alongside regional scientific research from the National University of Singapore’s long-term coral reef studies. Together, these perspectives illuminate the ocean as a dynamic, interconnected system that is critical for sustained life on Earth.
